Water violet Hottonia palustris

The water violet is an aquatic plant which flowers in early summer, producing delicate lilac flowers with yellow ‘eyes’ at their centre.

Conservation status

Locally common but now included on the Red Data List for England.

Did you know? Despite its name it is not actually a violet but rather a species of water primrose - if you look closely you can see the familiar yellow 'eye' at the centre of the flowers.
