The boat operation has recommenced at Ranworth and Hickling for the 2021 season. Staff and visitors are expected to adhere to the Covid 19 principles and procedural details set out from the government relating to social distancing, hygiene and sanitation. In order to achieve this, the following measures are currently in place. These will be continually reviewed in line with any future government changes.
  • Capacity will be structured to two households only (anyone in a support bubble is considered as one household).
  • All visitors will be required to wear a face covering unless they are exempt. Boat operators will be required to wear a face visor (or covering if they prefer) so that they can be heard by visitors.
  • All bookings should ideally be made in advance by phone. Bookings will be managed in such a way as to maximize capacity; this may mean on occasion that we ask visitors to consider alternate booking times to allow us to operate within these measures and to ensure we can accommodate everyone's needs as fully as possible.
  • The boat will be managed with a 2m (1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable is acceptable) separation zone between operator and visitors and between two household sets. One household will be positioned in the upper limits of the bow, whilst the other household will be positioned to the rear of the embarkation steps.
  • Hand sanitizer must be used on embarking and disembarking.
  • Life jackets will be rotated between trips and sanitized at the end of each trip.
  • Assistance in fastening jackets must be verbally directed by operators, with practical assistance only from a member of the same household.
  • Boats are sanitised between trips, paying special attention to all touch points.
  • For visitors embarking or disembarking, only verbal direction can be given by boat operators. Any practical assistance required can only be given by a member of the same household.
  • The tree tower at Hickling will be open; social distancing must be maintained on route and whilst ascending, on the platform and descending the tower. The opening of the Hickling boat hides will be reviewed in-line with government measures from 17 May 2021.
  • NWT binoculars and scopes will not be available for visitors currently, so please bring your own if you wish to use these.
