About the event

What can a century of conservation teach us about the future of nature in Norfolk?

Celebrate 100 years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust with an evening of stories, reflections and conversation about the wildlife and landscapes that have shaped our county.

Join naturalist and author David North in conversation with Nick Acheson, Norfolk Wildlife Trust ambassador, as they explore the remarkable history of Cley and Salthouse Marshes and the wider story of conservation in Norfolk.

David will share reflections from his new book, Life Changing: Cley and Salthouse Marshes, drawing on a lifetime of experiences at one of the UK’s most celebrated nature reserves. Through personal stories and memories, he’ll bring to life the wildlife, people and moments that have shaped these iconic marshes.

The evening will also feature discussion of Nick Acheson’s new centenary book, This Wild Dream – A Celebration of 100 Years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Created from over a decade of his much-loved Norfolk Magazine columns, the beautifully produced collection takes readers on a seasonal journey through Norfolk’s wildlife while reflecting on a century of conservation.

Together, David and Nick will explore how conservation in Norfolk has evolved over the past 100 years — and what the future might hold for wildlife in our county.

Both books will be available to purchase on the evening, with a book signing after the talk. All profits from the books go directly to Norfolk Wildlife Trust to support our work for wildlife.

This event is organised by New Stages, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based in North Norfolk. Arts, culture, education and community engagement are used to improve wellbeing, develop skills, reduce isolation and create opportunities for people of all ages to participate in creative and social activities.
