The initiative, made possible thanks to a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will put young people at the heart of nature conservation in Norfolk as we look ahead to the next 100 years.
Working alongside our staff and trustees, Youth Advisory Board members will have a say on vital issues affecting Norfolk’s wild spaces, work with the charity leadership team and lead community nature campaigns. Young people recruited to the Board will have the opportunity to take part in discussions, events, workshops, and training with the aim of making a positive change for Norfolk’s wildlife and people.
Alex Day, our Senior Youth Engagement Officer, said: ‘Looking after our wildlife holds the key to a healthy and happy world for future generations. So, it’s brilliant to be able to welcome young people into the heart of our work through our Youth Advisory Board, thanks to support from National Lottery players.
‘You don’t need any previous experience of nature conservation; you just need enthusiasm, a passion to learn and grow, and a desire to work together to help wildlife, our planet and people.
‘Members will have the chance to gain experience and leadership skills, work with brilliant environmentalists and make a real difference to Norfolk’s wildlife. It’ll be ambitious, inspiring, and joyous!’
Youth Advisory Board members will need to be available to meet once per month, usually from 5pm – 8pm on a Wednesday, and able to commit a few additional hours each month for learning, reflection and planning.
Members will be offered a variety of opportunities including joining team building sessions, events and activities as well as volunteering. They will also be able to join conversations about the future of our work and ambitions by taking part in quarterly charity Trustee meetings in addition to helping plan and deliver local wildlife campaigns and initiatives.
Each Youth Advisory Board member will be well supported by a dedicated coordinator and will be given all necessary training.
Being part of the Youth Advisory Board is a two-year opportunity, and applicants will need to be available for the duration of the programme which begins this September. You must be based in Norfolk and able to travel to our Norwich offices located near Norwich Railway Station. All expenses will be paid for, including food and travel.
The application deadline is Monday 6 July, 9am.
