A remarkable new book marking a century of conservation has been published to celebrate 100 years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

This Wild Dream – A Celebration of 100 years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust has been produced in collaboration with Propolis Books, the imprint of The Book Hive and offers readers a rich, seasonal journey through the landscapes and wildlife of Norfolk.

Created from over a decade of much-loved columns written for Norfolk Magazine by our Ambassador Nick Acheson, this beautifully produced hardback captures the glory of nature in the county while reflecting on the vital conservation work carried out over the past 100 years.

Described by fellow nature writer and our president Patrick Barkham, who has written the foreword, as an essential guide to the county’s wildlife, the book invites readers to discover everything from hedgehogs and barn owls to pink-footed geese and chiffchaffs.

Patrick says: ‘If you want to discover hedgehogs or barn owls or pink-footed geese or chiffchaffs or have your eyes opened to a thousand other joys of March or May or September or even December, there is no finer guide. If you would like to find out more about our precious county of Norfolk, what makes it hum, buzz, thrive and prosper – what makes it sing – there is no better teacher than Nick. If you’d like to feel wild joy, experience the peace or exhilaration that is available, for free, in all kinds of unlikely corners of our county, from inner city Norwich to the fenny edgelands, it is all here.’

Carefully curated by Henry Layte of The Book Hive, the collection is arranged seasonally, with selected pieces illustrating both the rhythm of the natural year and the ambitions of the Trust for the future. Each season also features an introduction by an acclaimed Norfolk writer: Raffaella Barker, Ashley Hickson-Lovence, Jess Streeting and Jeremy Page.

‘Through this book, I want to show people how wondrous and precious Norfolk biodiversity is,’ says Nick. ‘To remind them that by working together, we can preserve for the future what has so nearly been lost in the past. We want everyone in Norfolk excited about nature, clamouring for more, because it’s what we need as a society. That’s the wild dream.’

Sumptuous in design and rich in storytelling, This Wild Dream stands as both a celebration of our centenary and a rallying call for the next century of conservation in Norfolk.

All profits from the book will go directly to us.
