About the event

Discover the beauty and hidden wildlife of NWT Thorpe Marshes, part of the Norfolk Broads yet just on the edge of Norwich in Thorpe St Andrew. Join local naturalist Chris Durdin for a guided walk through this special reserve, a landscape of grazed and ungrazed marshes, meandering ditches, and the open waters of St Andrew’s Broad.

Bring your binoculars and camera if you have them, to make the most of this wildlife haven.

  • In winter, look out for waterbirds such as gadwall, tufted duck, and pochard.
  • In spring and summer, great crested grebes breed, common terns dive for fish, and the scrub comes alive with birdsong. The elusive Cetti’s warbler can be heard all year.
  • In summer, the skies fill with swallows, house martins, and swifts feeding before their migration to Africa.

Whether you’re a keen birder, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful walk in a beautiful urban setting, this event offers a wonderful way to connect with local wildlife.
