Walk on the wild side
A new way to enjoy nature – and help protect it too!
Join us on Sunday 21 September 2025 at NWT Foxley Wood for Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s very first sponsored walk – and help protect the places that make Norfolk a special home for wildlife.
Walk on the wild side is a brand-new fundraising event for all ages, set in the beautiful surroundings of NWT Foxley Wood, one of our most treasured sites.
Whether you’re signing up as a family, with friends, or by yourself, this is your chance to explore nature, raise vital funds to protect Norfolk’s wildlife and make lasting memories!
Choose your route
Make your choice between two circular routes based on your pace and preference. We’ll all set off together!
5km route
A scenic route through some of Foxley Wood's finest sights, including the newest part of the reserve; recently acquired and brought under NWT ownership.
3km route
A shorter, gentler option, perfect for families with younger children or anyone preferring a more leisurely stroll.
Both routes include a wildlife spotter trail for children (and enthusiastic adults too!) so make sure to keep your eyes peeled as you walk…

More than just a walk
It’s not just about the walk itself – we’ve planned some fun extras to help you relax, refuel, and celebrate your day out in nature.
Start your day at our welcome area where you can collect your spotter trail sheet, check in, and find out more about what’s happening throughout the event.
Once you've completed your walk, unwind and enjoy our range of refreshments available to purchase.
At the finish line, explore our selection of wildlife-themed merchandise and get stuck into a few nature-inspired activities – a relaxing way to round off your day. All proceeds go directly toward supporting our conservation work.
Make sure you remember your achievement by taking a piece of Foxley home with you, with a beautiful exclusive medal made from wood sourced from the reserve!
Raise money, earn rewards!
Your ticket covers the cost of running the event but the real difference comes from the sponsorship money you raise. We’re encouraging everyone to aim for a minimum of £100 in sponsorship - every pound raised goes directly to protecting Norfolk’s wildlife and wild places.

Please arrive from 10am. The walk will begin at 10.30am.
Can I arrive by car?
Parking is available at NWT Foxley Wood, but please book your free parking space when you sign up to Walk on the wild side, so we can make sure we can fit everyone in!
What facilities will be available?
There will be toilets available on-site on the day of the walk, including an accessible toilet cubicle. Tea, cake, and refreshments will be available at the finish line area.
Is Foxley Wood accessible?
The paths at Foxley Wood are grade 2, meaning there are some rougher tracks that may be uneven or muddy, depending on the weather.
What if it rains?
The event will go ahead unless conditions are unsafe. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Can my dog come on the walk with me?
No - sorry! To protect the Foxley Wood's important habitats, dogs are not allowed at the event.
How can I raise my sponsorship money?
There are many different ways you could raise your sponsorship money so it really is up to you! Once you register for the event we will be able to supply you with sponsorship forms to encourage friends, family and colleagues to sponsor your walk, as well as posters you can display to let everyone know what you’re up to! We are also happy to supply NWT collection tins and buckets to help with your fundraising if required, please do let us know.
If you prefer to raise your money online then we strongly suggest setting up a Just Giving donation page so it couldn’t be easier for your supporters to donate to your walking efforts! Details of how to set up this type of fundraising page will be provided in your welcome email upon sign up.
Once you have collected your kind sponsorship donations there are a selection of ways you can send this to us, details of which will also be included in your sign up email.
Do I have to collect sponsorship money to take part?
The required ticket price goes towards the cost of putting on the event and participant communication costs. We ask all participants to raise as much sponsorship money as possible to help us protect Norfolk’s wildlife but you will be warmly welcomed on the day no matter how much you manage to raise!
