Bird Photographer of the Year at NWT Cley Marshes

Thursday 11 May, 2017

From Monday 15 May Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be hosting the Bird Photographer of the Year exhibition at its NWT Cley Marshes reserve, hot on the heels of it being displayed in London at Kew Gardens.

Forty-five stunning bird photographs will be on display from thirty-one different photographers including the winning photograph ‘Mute Swan’ by Andy Parkinson.
The judges which included wildlife presenter, Chris Packham poured over 6,000 photographs before narrowing them down to the final shortlist.

Rob Read Director of Bird Photographer of the Year, said “It’s fantastic to working with Norfolk Wildlife Trust at Cley Marshes and to provide this unique opportunity to see the exhibition outside of London.  The photographs are too beautiful to keep under wraps and I hope that they will inspire the next generation of bird photographers.”

The competition is a partnership between Bird Photographer of the Year and the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) with all profits from the entrant’s fees going to help support the work of the Trust. The exhibition will be held in the Simon Aspinall Education Centre at Cley Marshes and will run from Monday 15 May to Monday 19 June 2017.

As part of the exhibition, the BTO’s Director, Dr Andy Clements will also be giving a talk entitled “Understanding Bird Migration – BTO knowledge at global to local scales” on Friday 16 June at 10.30am.  100 years of volunteer knowledge coupled with ground-breaking technology is unravelling the mysteries of bird migration.  To book a place at the talk, call Cley Marshes visitor centre on 01263 740008, tickets cost £3.50 for NWT members, £5 for non-members including refreshments.
