Musicians and artists celebrate spring at the North Norfolk Coast
From Thursday 4 May to Sunday 7 May, Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Cley Marshes reserve and visitor centre will be celebrating spring and International Dawn Chorus Weekend with a mini-festival of music performances, art, walks, talks and children’s events.
Highlights of this coming weekend include:
Friday 5 May -
The Most Perfect Thing: Dr Tim Birkhead talks about his bestselling book and everything you ever wanted to know about birds’ eggs and more. Which end of an egg is laid first – the blunt end or the pointy end? When does the shell of an egg harden? How are the colours and patterns of egg shells created? Join us for a tasty jacket potato supper at 7pm (included in ticket price) followed by the talk at 7:45pm in our fabulous Simon Aspinall Wildlife Education Centre.
Saturday 6 May -
StringFillies: A special musical performance combining traditional music making with tunes and songs from the Gaelic and Celtic traditions and influences from Russia and Georgia. A magical combination of concert harp, cello, violin and voices with music specifically chosen to connect to the marshes and life in North Norfolk. Doors open 6.30pm with licensed bar and light meals, performance 7.30pm.
Sunday 7 May –
Confluence project: Drawing inspiration from the waterways, marshes and coastlines of the artists’ East Anglia homes. This is a visual and auditory in-the-moment experience to communicate and reflect the natural world using piano improvisation and multi-media visual arts. Featuring pianist Adrian Lever and Martin Laurance with back-lit projected works by the artists Bill Vine, Sarah Cannell, and Alison Harvey. Doors open 6.30pm with licensed bar and light meals, performance 7.30pm.
And don’t forget to tune in to a live dawn chorus webstream broadcast from the hides at Cley Marshes at sunrise on Sunday morning by the Sounding Coastal Change Project. Find out more at
