About the event
Most of us have felt it - the particular kind of calm that comes from being somewhere green and quiet. But why does it work, and why doesn't everyone get access to it? Join author and NWT Ambassador Nick Acheson in conversation with wellbeing experts to discover what the evidence says about nature and mental health, hear some honest stories about the difference it makes in people’s lives, and ask how we make sure the next one hundred years of Norfolk’s wild spaces are there for everyone.
Dara McAnulty
Dara McAnulty is a naturalist, campaigner and multi-award winning author. His critically acclaimed debut, Diary of a Young Naturalist, is written in poetic prose and follows his deep relationship with nature, his campaigning work, and the everyday challenges and joys of being autistic.
The book was a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week and was longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction. It went on to win the Wainwright Prize for UK Nature Writing 2020, making Dara the youngest ever winner of a major literary prize. Further recognition followed, including the An Post Irish Book Award for Newcomer of the Year 2020, the Books Are My Bag Readers Award for Non-fiction 2020 and a place on the Waterstones Book of the Year 2020 shortlist. In 2021 he received the British Zoology Clarivate Award for his writing, and the book won the British Book Award for narrative non-fiction.
In December 2022, Dara became the youngest recipient on King Charles III’s New Year’s Honours List, awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal) for services to nature and the autistic community.
