About the event
Are you 11-17? Do you enjoy being outdoors? Are you interested in wildlife and nature? Then this could be the session for you!
This session is all about birds. Rise and shine for a unique behind-the-scenes wildlife experience! A bird ringing demo!
Join us bright and early this half-term for this rare event in partnership with the Norfolk Ornithologists Association. You'll meet trained, licensed bird ringers and get up close to some of the incredible bird species that visit or live here on the Norfolk coast.
Discover how bird ringing helps scientists learn about bird’s movements, behaviour, migration, and lifespan. You’ll see how birds are carefully checked, measured, and fitted with a tiny numbered ring that allows them to be identified if they are seen again, helping researchers track populations and better understand the natural world.
Bird ringing has been an important conservation tool for over 100 years and is carried out under strict regulations by experienced, licensed professionals (info source - The Wildlife Trusts). The welfare of the birds always comes first, and all birds are released quickly and unharmed.
As this activity is highly weather dependent, please keep an eye on your emails in the days leading up to the event for any updates.
Please meet at Cley Marshes Visitors Centre and check in at reception. Further joining details will be sent during the week before the event.
