About the event

Caroline Houchell is a mixed media artist and self taught printmaker, working from her garden studio in North Norfolk.

Awakening is an exhibition rooted in the artist’s experience of rediscovering the seasons after moving to North Norfolk .

Central to her process is that the landscape participates directly in the creation of her work. Gathering plant material such as fallen foliage, seed heads, and weathered fragments, she uses these natural forms to create gel plate prints that capture the textures, silhouettes, and delicate imperfections.

These become the foundations for layered works that combine paint, collage and spontaneous mark-making. Through colour, form and texture, she explores the shifting moods of the seasons.

Caroline's practice is a way of slowing down and paying attention. It is an ongoing conversation with the landscape, a record of the transitions that shape the year, and a reminder of the beauty that reveals itself when you take the time to notice.
