Soil Life: explorations into a vulnerable and underrepresented ecosystem
Event details
About the event
A single teaspoon of soil contains more living organisms than there are people on earth. Join Louisa, an environmental science PhD researcher at UEA and enthusiastic soil science communicator. Six inches of ground beneath us are the driver of all life on earth, and the source of 99% of our food. Despite our inherent reliance on soils, they are being depleted at a rapid rate due to factors such as intensive agricultural practices and climate change. Through Louisa's 4-year project, she will conclude on practices that sustain and support soil life through investigations of bioindicator species and eDNA methods. During this talk, Louisa will discuss why this issue is more important than ever, and why we must restore this vital life source.
Lunch is included in the ticket price.
