About the event

Nature conservation and STEM have long celebrated diversity at every level in the natural world – from the atom to the biome – but have been slower to embrace human diversity, especially in comparison with fields such as the arts.

This friendly, accessible panel of LGBTQIA+ people in nature, the environment and STEM is hosted by Norfolk Wildlife Trust. We’ll be bringing together people paving the way for diverse voices in nature and STEM to discuss their experiences and share advice.

Featuring science communicator Gab Astorga, Dr Ellie Leech of the British Trust for Ornithology, Dr Sam Rowe of the Quadram Institute, Ella Warren-Cooke, Nature Recovery Adviser at NWT, and Nick Acheson, chair of Norfolk Wildlife Trust.

Contributors will discuss their experience as professionals in the field, what challenges they still experience, and the encouragement they can offer to young LGBTQIA+ people hoping to enter nature and STEM as a career. This panel is perfect for anyone interested in nature and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people. We welcome all identities and allies.
