About the reserve

This small, ancient wood is great for a short, summer stroll. You'll find an array of wildflowers that act as ‘markers’ of ancient woodland, such as dog’s mercury, wood anemone and herb-paris. You might spot the greater butterfly orchid with its beautiful, cream-white flowers. Despite being 60 cm tall, it can be difficult to find as it doesn’t flower every year.     

NWT Honeypot Wood is rich in history, as well as wildlife. This incredibly ancient site is thought to be a remnant of wild wood dating back to the retreat of the last ice age.  

During the Second World War, the woods housed the bomb storage for the adjacent RAF Wendling, and the old buildings can be found on the north-eastern edge of the site.   

A visit during spring and summer to this fascinating reserve will treat you to the fragrant aroma of woodland flowers.
