Small white

The small white is a common garden visitor. It is smaller than the similar large white, and has less black on its wingtips.

This ancient woodland is especially beautiful in spring when butterflies and the scent of wild garlic fill the air, and a sea of bluebells carpet the floor beneath the old oak trees.

Wood warbler

Look for the wood warbler singing from the canopy of oak woodlands in the north and west of the UK. Green above, it has a distinctive, bright yellow throat and eyestripe.
