Protected Species Survey: Nesting birds

Song thrush chicks, Rachael Barber 1/1
All wild birds and their nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended).

Initial survey

During a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) our licenced ecologists will assess whether a site has suitable nesting habitat for birds. The removal of any trees or vegetation on site should take place outside of the bird breeding season (March to August). Any clearance works that takes place during this season should be done following a nesting bird survey.

Further surveys

Any trees, hedges and vegetation for removal from March to August, are checked for evidence of nesting birds by a licenced ecologist prior to work commencing. Any active nests are cordoned off and left undisturbed until the nest has naturally concluded.
