Protected Species Survey: Barn owls

Barn owl are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended). Barn owl are also listed under Schedule 1 of the Act which provides additional protection against disturbance.

Initial survey

During a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) our licenced ecologists will assess any buildings, trees or other features that could support nesting or roosting barn owls. This includes searching for pellets, feathers and white wash on walls, tree trunks or ground, and assessing the suitability of surrounding habitat.

Mitigation

Once a survey is complete a full impact assessment of the proposed development on barn owls is made and an appropriate mitigation strategy devised.
