Market to marshes
Market to Marshes: Guided Walk or Cycle Tour | Norwich Science Festival
About the event
As part of Norwich Science Festival, swap city streets for wild green spaces on this accessible micro-adventure.
Join UEA biologist Dr Will Nash and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust for a friendly guided journey from The Forum to Sweet Briar Marshes - Norwich’s premier urban nature reserve. Enjoy birdwatching, learn to identify seasonal plants, and discover how cities can create room for nature to thrive.
The gentle walk will follow largely traffic-free paths (walkers and cyclists take parallel routes) and reunite on the reserve for a short explore. Expect seasonal highlights: birds along the river, seasonal plant ID tips, lichens and mosses on ancient trees, stories of floodplains, rewilding, and how cities can make space for nature. UEA academics and students leading the walk will have on hand a couple of simple citizen-science observations to try using cutting edge apps (bring a smartphone if you have one).
More of a cyclist? Then take the same route led by NWT and Cycling UK staff. Discover the best way to cycle from the city to the marshes. When booking, please select the cycling ticket.
The event will end at NWT Sweet Briar Marshes, where attendees can roam around the marshes at their own pace. Please note that the guided tours will not make the return journey back to the city centre.
Under-16s must attend with a responsible adult.
