First ever virtual 250 Club Draw held - and looking ahead to the 40th anniversary
The 250 Club lottery held its first ever virtual Draw on 28 August and prize cheques were issued soon afterwards. The volunteer promoter, Dick Wingate, and two members of staff connected via Zoom from their homes to run the Draw safely and securely in a remote version of its usual format.
Our top prize winner, Shirley, was kind enough to send us some words about herself and what she enjoys about being a member of Norfolk Wildlife Trust: “We have lived in Wymondham for over 30 years after having returned to Norfolk due to my husband’s job. We have been retired for some years now. We are particularly fond of the NWT centre at Ranworth Broad and visit there several times a year and then go on to visit St. Helen’s Church and have another look at their beautiful Rood Screen. We also visit the centre at Cley Marshes occasionally. My husband is a keen allotment-holder and has a local allotment. I enjoy working in our garden and knitting and reading. I was brought up in Norfolk near to Wymondham and have happy memories of summer holidays in North Norfolk mainly in the Bacton/Cromer area.” Congratulations to Shirley on her first prize win!
When the Draws return in February and July 2021 we will be celebrating 40 years of the 250 Club and the incredible fundraising contribution of its’ players.
The 250 Club is a small society lottery currently run by Dick Wingate, Volunteer Promoter, which gives 40% of its income in prizes and is established to donate the remainder towards Norfolk Wildlife Trust projects such as land restoration, species reintroduction and conservation grazing.
This year marks a significant milestone for our 250 Club lottery: donations from ticket holders exceeded an incredible £250,000. We use the funds as a Third Party Contributing payment to a Landfill Operator, meaning this quarter of a million from the 250 Club has enabled us to unlock a further £2.5million towards
habitat restoration projects across Norfolk.
We hold two Prize Draws, in February and July each year.
