Family events at Cley Marshes
Fun for all the family
Whether you are interested in marine wildlife, wetland wildlife or arts and crafts, there is something for everyone. Every event is designed for children but enjoyable for all ages, making them a wonderful way for families to explore the natural world together. These are our regular family events:
We will be looking out for wildlife, collecting natural materials and creating masterpieces inspired by nature on our reserve.
We will forage amongst the foliage, search and sweep for any minibeasts that may be waiting.
Join us at our custom built platform to explore wildlife that can be found in ponds and dykes. We will help you tell your boatman from your beetle larvae.
Using binoculars from the hide, learn how to easily identify different types of birds and explore bird song through games.
In this special activity for children explore part of the nature reserve using all your senses. (recommended for children ages 6 to 12). Inquisitive eyes, noses, fingers and dirty knees are essential.
We’ll be identifying the enchanting moths that have been trapped the night before. Join us for a rare opportunity to see these fantastic night flyers during the daytime.
Explore and scavenge amongst the strandline to find natural materials to decorate your shingle sculptures. We’ll be there to tell you if you’ve collected bladderwrack or a bivalve shell.
Discover the huge variety of tiny animals (plankton) that live in the sea and why they are so important.
With bat detectors at the ready we hope to tap into the amazing life of these secretive animals.
Large Family Themed Days
As well as our regular family events we will also host several large themed days across the year. Themed days will comprise events on the reserve and games and activities in the Simon Aspinall Wildlife Education Centre.
Our themed days in 2015 will include Easter at Cley, Insect Day, Marine Mayhem, Tern Tuesday, Autumn Day, Bizarre Beasts & Christmas Crafts.
