Green-winged Orchid Anacamptis morio

This used to be a common flower in meadows and pastures. It has suffered greatly from agricultural intensification, particularly ploughing and re-seeding. The application of fertiliser almost certainly spells doom for the green-winged orchid. Where it still exists, it can occur in large numbers.

Conservation status

It has disappeared from 49% of its historical range. There was a reduction of 11% in the number of 10km squares where it was found from 1970-1986 (Harrap 2005-2009). The reduction is due to changing agricultural practices and neglect of meadows.
