Sea dipping!

Make the most of our coast!

Sunday 27 July, 2014

We do love to be beside the seaside! Everyone remembers childhood trips to the seaside, peering into rockpools and picking up seashells.

National Marine Week is a celebration of the wonderfully varied wildlife we have in our seas. Each year the Wildlife Trusts nationally celebrate the UK’s amazing sea animals and plants during National Marine Week, which this year runs from 26 July to 10 August. Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be providing lots of opportunities for you and your children to discover Norfolk’s coastal and marine wildlife including events at West Runton.

View our Living Seas events here!

This summer, why not also plunge into the possibilities of exploring the UK’s undersea world too.  Under the surface lie habitats every bit as varied as those on land – kelp forests, seagrass meadows, mud plains, rocky reefs, deep-water corals and more. These awesome and varied places support thousands of plants and animals, from sea horses to basking sharks.

All around our coasts, Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers will be sharing their knowledge, so whether you want to find out more about minke whales or molluscs, velvet swimming crabs or strawberry anemones, breadcrumb sponges or butterfish, and seals or sea birds, you can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the sea and learn more about its riches.

Seek out spectacular starfish

There are 13 weird and wonderful starfish species in the UK.  You're probably most likely to find these fantastic five.

There's one in particular we'd like you to share with the Prime Minister, David Cameron MP.  We're asking you to send him a starfish this summer.  Find out how you can help here.  Let him know how much you care about our seas' protection.

Come along to some of our fantastic events! And when you get home, you can even build your own sea creature or play the great sea race. For more great games, visit our WildlifeWatch website.
