First Pensthorpe Bird and Wildlife Fair raises £2,150 to support Norfolk Wildlife Trust projects

Wednesday 10 July, 2019

The first Pensthorpe Bird and Wildlife Fair was held on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May 2019 at Pensthorpe Natural Park, near Fakenham, and has raised £2,150 for Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) to develop wetland restoration and care in the Broads National Park.

A percentage of profits from the event, along with profits from special ‘out of hours’ events featuring TV nature and wildlife personalities Simon King OBE and Mike Dilger, has been donated to NWT.

NWT cares for more than 50 nature reserves and other protected sites encompassing wetland, heathland, woodland and coastal habitats that provide a home for species such as otter, bittern, common crane, bearded tit and marsh harrier.

David Thompson, Chair of Norfolk Wildlife Trust said: “On behalf of all the staff, volunteers and our members we are really grateful for this donation. It is going to be used towards the upkeep, maintenance and improvement of our wetlands, many of which are of international importance. It takes a lot of management, a lot of care, a lot of detailed attention and this donation will go towards that active, ongoing management, so thank you.”

Around 2,500 people attended the first Pensthorpe Bird and Wildlife Fair, which celebrated Norfolk as the birdwatching capital of the UK and featured talks, guided walks, demonstrations, book signings and around 50 exhibitors.

The Pensthorpe Bird and Wildlife Fair will return on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May 2020.

NWT has been announced as the charity beneficiary of the Pensthorpe Bird and Wildlife Fair in 2020 and 2021.
