A pond dipping platform to help children explore underwater wildlife is being built at
NWT Cley Marshes in North Norfolk, thanks to funding and volunteers from HSBC.
The bank sent two work parties to Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve to lay a decking area, put up hand rails and construct fencing. A digger will then create the pool.
The pond dipping platform will be put to good use next year, as a new resource for both visiting schools and families providing a window onto the huge diversity of aquatic life at Cley.
It is part of NWT’s commitment to education on the
North Norfolk coast: building a new education centre in memory of Simon Aspinall; and connecting 8km of coastal nature reserves.
NWT Head of People and Wildlife, David North said: “Pond dipping is brilliant way to open children’s eyes to this hidden world of underwater wildlife. The new platform provides a safe and secure environment for children to make hands-on discoveries of this vital part of Cley’s ecosystems and food-chains.”
Andy Castle from HSBC said: "It's been a pleasure to be able to support the building of the pond dipping platform at Cley, both through the funding provided by HSBC and the involvement of our team in the building work. I hope that young people enjoy using the platform and can learn about keeping our natural habitats conserved both now and for future generations.”
