Norfolk Wildlife Trust has been awarded a cash boost of £4,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative to improve access and education at our largest ancient woodland.
Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants awarded to thousands of local community projects every year. Since launching in 2015, it’s provided more than £75 million to over 25,000 local community projects.
Grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects. Shoppers at Tesco’s Dereham Extra store voted for the project during March and April using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shopped.
Work will now begin to improve the car park and path surfaces and install new interpretation at NWT Foxley Wood. In addition we will celebrate our
Mid Norfolk Local Group’s 40th anniversary event in the wood this autumn, celebrating and raising awareness about the wildlife in Norfolk’s largest remaining ancient woodland.
Chief Executive of Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Pamela Abbott said: “Thank you for thinking of Norfolk’s very special wildlife when voting with your Tesco token – we really appreciate your support. The Bags of Help initiative will not only improve the car park and paths in the wood, but also help our Mid Norfolk Local Group reach more local people at their special anniversary event and introduce them to the wildlife at NWT Foxley Wood.”
Alec Brown, Tesco’s Head of Community, said: “Bags of Help contributes funds to community projects up and down the country and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers voting in their local stores. We’re looking forward to seeing more projects brought to life.”
Groundwork’s National Chief Executive, Graham Duxbury, said: “Bags of Help continues to enable local communities up and down Britain to improve the local spaces and places that matter to them. The diversity of projects that are being funded shows that local communities have a passion to create something great in their area. We are pleased to be able to be a part of the journey and provide support and encouragement to help local communities thrive.”
