The Song of the Earth - A Film by John Snape
This is a highly popular nature-inspired film which offers a selection of England's glorious nature poetry from Chaucer to Keats to Ted Hughes. Much of this film is devoted to the 'sweet but tragic life' of John Clare, who after 150 years is at last recognised to be one of our finest nature poets. Richard Mabey reads John Clare wonderfully, whilst Liza Goddard reads some of her ultimate favourite poems about barn owls and snowdrops. Lastly the talented 16 year old violinist Jeanine Thorpe plays Beethoven's Spring Sonata against a background of lambs and catkins.
