Tree-cutting specialists from energy firm UK Power Networks have taken time out from their day jobs to help Norfolk Wildlife Trust clear part of a site near Thetford.
Nine professional arboriculturalists from across East Anglia spent a day at
Thompson Common to help clear trees and shrubs so a fence could be put up on the grazing land.
The energy firm, which delivers electricity to eight million customers across East Anglia, London and the South East through its vast infrastructure of overhead power lines, underground cables and substations, gives all staff the opportunity to spend two working days each year helping good causes.
Head of Nature Reserves at Norfolk Wildlife Trust, JOhn Milton said: “The team from UK Power Networks cleared trees and scrub from an area used for grazing so that a fence can be put up next month. The work needed to be done quickly so as not to affect the bird nesting season. We are grateful to them for their efforts as it saved our Brecks team a week’s work.”
David Walker, manager of the Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire tree trimming team and one of those who took part last month, said: “We managed to clear all the trees and scrub for the trust and everyone enjoyed working as a team for a good cause.”
UK Power Networks has been a
corporate member of Norfolk Wildlife Trust - and the other eight wildlife trusts in its patch – since 2011.
As this latest project shows, the partnership goes well beyond simple membership and is part of UK Power Networks’ vision to be an employer of choice and a respected corporate citizen.
