NWT Upton Broad and Marshes
Most of the site is nationally and internationally recognised for its rich assemblage of wetland habitats and species.
What to look for: Spring / summer swallowtail and white admiral butterfly, Norfolk hawker and hairy dragonfly, variable damselfly. Marsh helleborine, milk parsley, greater spearwort, round-leaved wintergreen, bog pimpernel, frogbit, water soldier, stoneworts. Reed warbler, yellow wagtail, hobby. Autumn / winter marsh fern, saw sedge, fen pondweed. Year round marsh harrier. Water vole.
Facilities: Information board, way-marked trail and boardwalks. Reserve leaflet. Paths are muddy year round.
Directions: NWT Upton Broad and Marshes is a few kilometres north of Acle on the A47 Norwich to Great Yarmouth road. From Acle take the B1140 road to South Walsham and take the third right towards Pilson Green. Continue into Low Road, and the NWT car park is 200m on the right.
Access: Entrance is from the car park, where there is only limited parking.
Management Aims: NWT Upton Broad and Marshes is currently undergoing a major restoration programme to draw together several recently acquired parcels of land and manage them as a new large area for wildlife. This process will take many years. You may see evidence of restoration work happening around you, please observe all safety signs.
