NWT Thursford Wood

The oaks here are some of the oldest in the county and could be over 500 years old. The dead branches and partially rotten trunks provide refuge for a stunning array of wildlife.

What to look for: Spring/summer bluebell, ferns, fungi. Autumn/winter ancient pollarded oak, mosses, lichens.

Facilities: Information board and way-marked trail.

Directions: NWT Thursford Wood is located 5km north east of Fakenham. Leave Fakenham on the A148 road towards Cromer. Cross the river Stiffkey and up the small hill. The car park is on the left.

Access: Entrance is from the car park. Caution – traffic is fast on this stretch of road.

Did you know? The oaks here were pollarded originally to protect them from grazing cattle and deer and so prolong their lives.
