NWT Salthouse Marshes

One of a string of important birding sites along the north Norfolk coast. A shingle bank protects it from the ravages of the North Sea.

What to look for: Spring/summer avocet. Autumn/winter snow bunting, shore lark, brent goose. Year round redshank, lapwing.

Directions: NWT Salthouse Marshes is 2km east of Cley next the Sea on the A149 coast road. There is no NWT car park, but parking is available in the car park opposite the road to the east of Salthouse village.

Access: Access to paths around the marsh is from the car park.

Did you know? The voracious North Sea breaches the embankment every few years, and the marshes here are subject to regular sea flooding.
