NWT Cockshoot Broad
(Part of Bure Marshes NNR)

Renowned for its water lily beds, which are testament to the good water quality here. There are many damselflies which can be seen resting on the water lilies.

What to look for: Spring/summer swallowtail butterfly, variable and red-eyed damselfly, Norfolk hawker, migrant hawker, hairy dragonfly. Marsh pea, marsh valerian, yellow monkey flower. Autumn/winter siskin, redpoll. Year round marsh harrier, heron, great crested grebe, Cetti’s warbler.

Facilities: Information signs, boardwalk and hide.

Directions: NWT Cockshoot Broad is adjacent to NWTRanworth Broad. From the B1140 Norwich to Acle road turn to Woodbastwick. Drive through Woodbastwick and on towards Ranworth. As the road bends sharply to the right, continue straight ahead on the smaller road, which goes to the south bank car park on the River Bure.

Access: Entrance is via a riverside way-marked boardwalk from the car park.

Did you know? NWT Cockshoot Broad was given a new lease of life in the early 1980s when deep sediment was cleared as part of a programme to restore the site.
