NWT Lower Wood, Ashwellthorpe

One of Norfolk’s few remaining ancient woodlands. Bluebell and ramsons make colourful displays in spring

What to look for: Spring/summer wood anemone, ramsons, early purple orchid, wood spurge, hairy St John’s wort, bluebell, woodruff, herb Paris, twayblade. White admiral butterfly. Autumn/winter oak, ash, hornbeam, hazel.

Facilities: Information board and way-marked trail. Reserve leaflet.

Directions: NWT Lower Wood, Ashwellthorpe lies 4km to the south east of Wymondham along Silfield Road. Parking is in the village on the road.

Access: Entrance is via a public footpath from Ashwellthorpe village.

Did you know? Poles from this woodland were supplied to a brush factory in Wymondham until the 1970s.
