Marine

It's time to have your say and help protect our seas!

The Wildlife Trusts have launched a major, national campaign to help ensure a better future for the amazing wildlife that depends on our seas for survival.

Did you know that less than 0.001% of our seas are fully protected from damaging activities such as fishing and gravel-dredging? This is the equivalent on land of a single wildlife reserve the size of Kensington Gardens. Such neglect would be unthinkable on land, and it’s equally inexcusable at sea.

The UK’s seas are extraordinarily rich in wildlife, harbouring more than 44,000 animal and plant species – over 50% of our biodiversity. New legislation is needed to bridge the gap between the protection of wildlife on land and at sea, and to bring greater coherence to the planning activities which take place in the marine environment.

Climate Challenge

Save more than just money at Trust’s new Climate Challenge website

Every household can save hundreds of pounds and help their local area cope with climate change, through our revolutionary new website. www.wildlifeclimatechallenge.org suggests simple pledges to save energy in day-to-day life and provides an energy-saving calculator that can save householders up to £569 a year.

The Wildlife Trusts are working faster and on a larger scale than ever before to help provide local solutions to the global problem of climate change. The new website contains details of many of these solutions, and provides the opportunity for you to make a much bigger difference when you decide to save energy. If you feel inspired by the Wildlife Trusts’ work, you can donate a portion of your potential savings, even if it is just £5, to support the charities’ work in your local area.
