Appeals

Norfolk Wildlife Trust as a charity relies heavily on the continuing support of its members, volunteers and the general public.  The fragile nature of our natural environment makes it even more important for NWT to protect and enhance our wildlife assets whilst raising awareness of wildlife issues. This situation creates enormous and competing demands on the financial resources of the Trust and means that it is often necessary to issue ‘a cry for help’ through an Appeal for funds, when a very real need arises.

NWT Magical Meadows Appeal 2007

Thank you to all who have donated to the Magical Meadows Appeal.
Donations so far (28 January 2008) total £14,862.

As a charity working hard throughout Norfolk to conserve our beautiful county, NWT needs your help to raise funds towards the £76,000 necessary to ensure the success of its Magical Meadows Initiative.

In the spring, NWT announced the launch of this initiative, designed to increase the profile of one of the county’s most vulnerable habitats. The purpose is to ensure that Norfolk’s remaining meadows are identified and with conservation in mind protected for future generations of people and wildlife to enjoy.

Lowland grasslands, including pastures and hay meadows, are amongst the most diverse habitats in Norfolk and also amongst the most fragile, often vulnerable to neglect and inappropriate management. The sight of a traditional summer hay meadow abundant with beautiful wildflowers and buzzing with wildlife is something of a rarity, with estimates of more than a 95% decline across England from 1945 to 1985.

Sustainable management is key to the success of this initiative aimed at halting any further decline in Norfolk’s precious Magical Meadows. We are appealing for funds so that we can ensure selected priority County Wildlife Sites are brought into sustainable management; that green hay/local seed, grazing and ecological networks are developed; and that information and best practice is disseminated through publicity and conservation workshops.

Please help us by making a donation to this appeal. You can make a donation online or call 01603 625540 now.
