When to see - April
Venture out in the countryside in April and you won’t be disappointed. This is a very busy month. Hedgerows burst into life, butterflies frantically feed and woodlands become a palette of colours from purple bluebells to the variety of different greens from the newly emerging leaves of trees.
What to see in April
To see a carpet of bluebells visit NWT Foxley Wood. The Rosary Cemetery in Norwich has a fantastic display of wildflowers during spring, including meadow saxifrage and primroses. NWT Cley Marshes, NWT Hickling Broad and NWT Holme Dunes are all reserves where you may hear bitterns calling. Dawn and dusk are the best times to listen but on warm still nights they regularly call during hours of darkness. The Hawk and Owl Trust reserve at Sculthorpe Moor is a fantastic place to see breeding marsh harriers.
