Directions and Transport

By car: NWT Ranworth Broad is close to the village of Ranworth in the heart of the Broads. 3km West of Acle, turn North off the A47, into B1140 and go into S Walsham (right turn). Take the first left after the Post Office, to Ranworth. In Ranworth look for signs for Broadland wildlife centre Car Park (right turn).

By train/bike: the reserve is a 25 minute cycle ride from Salhouse and Acle stations which have regular train services to Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham. Cycles can be taken on trains on both lines, although booking is recommended.

By bus: the 124 bus runs from Norwich City Centre through Panxworth and South Walsham, both of which are approximately a mile’s walk from the reserve.

Did you know?

The Cator family gave Ranworth Broad to NWT in 1949. NWT’s Patron the Queen opened the Broads Wildlife Centre in 1976.



Facilities

Boat trips across this private Broad are available during the summer. Book at the visitor centre. Interpretive boardwalk explains the succession from open water to dry land and the many habitats you pass through. The floating Broads Wildlife Centre has fabulous views over NWT Ranworth Broad and contains interactive displays. Drinks, snacks, ice cream, giftware and books are available. Binoculars and telescopes are provided for use from the upper windows. Disabled parking is available and the centre and boardwalks are suitable for wheelchairs.

Access by canoe: mooring available adjacent to Broads Wildlife Centre during opening hours Easter – October. No access into Ranworth Broad.

 

Visitor centre

A popular destination for both families and naturalists. Interpreted boardwalks explore its ecology, and the floating visitor centre has hands-on learning activities.

Watch the antics of the wildfowl on the water or spot the sunken wherries around the Broad’s edge.

Located in the village of Ranworth, four miles east of Wroxham. NWT car park is signposted from the village. Buses stop a short walk away.

 

Water Trail - boat trips

Ranworth Broad is closed to public boat traffic and offers a magical wildlife experience, with the chance of seeing marsh harriers, common terns and great crested grebes, or even catching a glimpse of otter or the flash of blue as a kingfisher darts past. You will also find out about the fascinating history of the Broad, including the part it played in foiling German invasion plans in the Second World War! Pre-booking is always recommended as these trips are very popular, especially during school holidays.

45 minute trips: Adults £6, NWT members £5, Children £3 (£2.50 for members)

Malthouse Staithe ferry (one way): Adults £2.50, Children £1 (50p for members)

2 hour trips: £12.00 adults, £10.00 adult NWT members, £6.00 child £5.00 NWT child member

swallowtail butterfly, marsh valerian, milk parsley, common tern.

Autumn/winter

ospreys on migration, sphagnum moss.

Year round

Cetti’s warbler, great crested grebe, cormorant, marsh harrier, kingfisher.
