Booton Common

Booton Common lies in the valley of a tributary of the River Wensum, about a mile east of Reepham. The species-rich fen and wet heathland contain several rare plants. A variety of breeding birds are present including snipe, woodcock, grasshopper, warbler and lesser whitethroat.

Dog Policy:
Public footpath along southern edge. NWT no dogs policy elsewhere. Unclear whether or not Booton parishioners are permitted to walk with dogs as the site is owned by Booton Common Charity.

Directions and Transport

NWT Booton Common is 1km south east of Reepham in mid-Norfolk. From Bawdswell turn to Reepham on the B1145. Once in Booton village turn left 50m before the turning to Cawston. The track to the nature reserve is immediately on the left. Caution - there is limited roadside parking.  Entrance is via public footpath.

What to look for

Spring/summer

adders tongue fern, marsh helleborine, fragrant orchid, marsh pennywort, southern marsh orchid, grass of Parnassus, heather, bogbean.

Autumn/winter

marsh fern, polypody fern, mosses.
